At the monthly meeting of the Paten Hospital Board yesterday, the deferred j election of a chairman took place. Mr. G. R. Honeyfield being unanimously reelected for a further term of three ■ years. In tribute to the memory of the late. Mrs. Ellen Ballance, members present at last night’s meeting of the Wanganui City Council stood in silence to mark the passing of a resolution of condolence. The Mayor (Mr. AV. J. Rogers) said that the city regretted the death of Mrs. Ballance, a lady who, \.hile she lived in quiet retirement, was one when deserving applications were made to her for assistance, never allowed those applications to be made in vain. A portrait of the late Hon. John Ballance and an illuminated address, presented to him by the town of Wanganui, have been handed to the citv.
