OHAKEA

SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT On Friday night parents and friends numbering about 100 assembled at the I Ohakea Hall, the occasion being the annual concert of the Sunday School. Tea was served early in the evening and was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and adults. After this the room was cleared and the children gave various items, much to the appreciation of all present. The concert was commenced with the singing of a hymn sung bv all present. The Sunday School superintendent, Mr. 11. Rowe, offered apologies for Rev. Berry, of Rongotea, and Rev. 11. E. Fordyce, of Sanson. The programme was as follows: —Song, by Sunday School; recitation, infant girls; song, Eric Masters; recitation, Stella Tremain; chorus, Sunday School; song, Tommy Masters; recitation, Uric Masters and Stanley Rowe; song, Ruth Rowe; duet, Nina and Nora Hammon; recitation, Nickolas Rowe; chorus?, Sunday School choir; song, Lewis Rowe; dialogue, junior boys and girls; song, Miss N. Masters; recitation, Joy Ellery; duct, Jean and Tui Masters (enchored); dialogue, Bible, class, led by Mr. H. Tremain; quartette, Bible class, led by Miss N. Masters and Mr. A. Rowe. This concluded the programme and Mr. H. Rowe thanked the children for the interesting way they participated in their parts. Mr. Neil Rowe congratulated the children on their fine performance and also the teachers, Mr. H. Rowe, Misses E. and G. Rowe and Mr. H. Tremain, for their untiring work in preparing the evening. Mr. N. Rowe then gave a short address to the children in place of Mr. Harvey, of Palmerston North. PERSONAL Mr. W. Clulow is spending his ananual holiday in the Hutt. Mr. P. Hazelwood leaves to-day for a few days in Palmerston North and then goes to Levin for a week. Mr. W. Robinson is visiting friends and relatives in Orona IDowns. Mr. Alex Lammas is visiting relations in I'cilding. Mrs. Lassen, of Bunnythorpe, is spending a week with her daughter, Mrs. 11. Masters. Mr. Dave Murray is at present on his annual leave. FOOTBALL O-hakoa juniors could only muster 14 players to travel to Rangiotu to play Huia and were defeated by 11 points to 3 after a very fast, open game. Rangiotu (black and white) won the toss and defended the northern goal. Ohakea kicked off against a slight breezq and blacks immediately had the greens defending. A good passing rush led by Anderson was spoiled/by a knock on. The black forwards carried play right down to the green line, when D. Ryan cleared nicely. Blacks still continued to force the pace and almost succeeded in scoring, but L. Pedersen saved for Ohakea. Greens opened an attack led by A. Raits, but blacks sent play right down to the green twenty-five, J. Cole clearing nicely. The green were penalised in front of the goal and Gilmore kicked a penalty.—Huia 3, Ohakea 0.

The greens attacked and took play into blacks’ twenty-five, when the blacks were penalised, but Pedersen’s kick failed. The greens still attacked, but a good forward rush by the blacks took piay right down to green’s line when Gimlett went over to score. Matai failed with an easy kick.—lima 6, Ohakea 0. The greens again attacked, but the blacks were not to be outdone and carried play back to the green twentylive, when Pedersen relieved with a good line kick. Play was carried to the blacks’ twenty-five, when they were compelled to force down for the first time. Play evened up and half-time sounded. Blacks commenced with a strong forward rush but J. Cole intercepted and found the line. From a line-out the blacks secured and all their backs handled and Matai made a good run. but wsw well stopped by G. Wiggins. Green livened up and Pedersen led the, forwards down to blacks’ twentyfive, when a knock-on spoilt the movement. From a scrum the green were forced back and T. Terry saved Ohakea from a dangerous position. The green backs opened up play but bad handling spoilt a good movement. J. Cole was injured again and had to leave the field. The blacks again secured and Anderson secured possession and after a good run scored. Gilmore failed with the kick.—Huia 14 Ohakea 0.

Green opened up play and blacks were penalised in their own half. L. Pedersen kicked a goal from well out. —Huia 14, Ohakea 3. Blacks again attacked, but good work by Cole saved Ohakea from a dangerous position. Time sounded with blacks still pressing and the final score wax.—Huia 14, Ohakea 3. Mr. Fitzgerald ably controlled the game. Thirds The thirds had their second win by defeating Orona Downs by 22 to six after an even game. The Ohakea points were made up of six tries, two of these being converted. Tries were scored by L. Hazelwood. .1, Imery (2), J. Baker, P. Hazelwood and W. Stokoo. L. Hazelwood converted two. Mr. P. Richardson was referee. School Football The Ohakea-Sanson School team was again successful in winning on Saturday, defeating Rongotea by 33 points to 5. The ground was very Heavy, making the ball hard to handle. The pick of the forwards were C. Nickolson, 1). Euery and G. Schulz, while in the backs R. Simpson and J. Harris played good games.
