LYTTELTON BY-ELECTION AN UNEXPECTED NOMINATION ( Per Press Association. ) CHRISTCHURCH, July 8. There was an unexpected development in the Lyttelton by-election campaign this morning when Mr. Gordon Stewart Hamilton, a farmer, of Hapuku, near Kaikoura, lodged his nomination fop the scat. Nominations closed at noon, the candidates being Messrs. K L. Hills (Independent Labour), M. L. Lyons (Government),!'. H. McCombs (Labour), and G. S. Hamilton (Independent). Early this year Mr. Hamilton announced that it was his intention to stand against Mr. Forbes in the Humnui electorate, and he has indicated that he is a strong opponent of the Government. He has a farm at Hapuku. some miles north of Kaikoura, in the Wairau electorate.
