COUNTY MATCHES SEVERAL BIG WINS. DOUBLE CENTURY TO HOLMES. LONDON, July 5. A number of wins by big margins were scored in the aeries of county cricket championship matches which was completed to-day. Three teams won by more than an innings, one by 10 wickets, and another by 226 runs. The match between Oxford University and M.C.C. at Lord’s, on the other hand, was very evenly contested, the University team winning by 5 runs. E. K. T. Holmes, the Surrey captain, made a double century against Derbyshire, and other batsmen who made three-figure scores were Woolley (172), Hammond (160), Duckfield, Smart, J. Parks, Hardstaff, and Worthington. Bowes followed up his fine bowling performance in the previous series by taking seven for 58 in Essex’s first innings. Verity secured good figures n the second innings, and other successful bowlers were Phillipson and Parkinson (Lancashire), Goddard and A. Pope. The results are:—

Oxford University won by five runs. Sussex v. Kent, at Tunbridge Wells. —Sussex, 282 (11. Parks 83) and 338 (J. Parks 126); Kent, 439 (Woolley 172) and 98). Sussex vvu by 83 runs. Gloucestershire v. Worcestershire, at Worcester. Gloucestershire, 434 fur eight, declared Hammond 160); Worcestershire, 81 (Goddard, five for 25) and, following on 236. Gloucestershire wou by an innings and .117 runs. Glamorgan v. Hampshire, at Cardiff. —Glamorgan, 460 for eight, declared (Ducklield 111, Smart 109) and 18 for none; Hampshire, 226 and, following o’a, 248. Glamorgan won by 10 wickets, Yorkshire v. Essex, at Colchester.— Yorkshire, 253 (Nichols, four for 64) and 228 for five, declared; Essex, 150 (Bowes, seven for 58) and 105 (VeriK, five for 17). Yorkshire wou by 226 runs. Nottinghamshire v. Leicestershire, at Leicester. Nottinghamshire, 284 (Hardstaff 123 not out); Leicestershire, 113 and, following on, 153. Nottinghamshire wou by an innings and 18 runs. Surrey v. (Derbyshire, at Chesterfield. —Surrey, 430 (Holmes 206) and 164 tor seven, declared (A. Pope, five fur 34); Derbyshire, 244 (Worlhiuglon 10/J, Watts six for 71) and 150 for one. Surrey won on the first innings. Lancashire v. Northamptonshire, at Manchester.—Lancashire. 287 for eight, declared (Paynter 97, Washbrook 94;. Nrthamptonshire, 91 (Phillipson, four for 11, and, following on, 131 (Parkinson four for 6). Lancashire won by au innings and 65 runs. WYATT INVITED CAPI’AIN or TOUBING TEAM. LONDON, July j. It is officially announced that the M.C.C. has invited K. E. S. Wyatt, tu captain the team which is tu visit New Zealand. Wyatt is uncertain whether he will accept the New Zealand invitation, owing to the strain of continuous big cricket. No decision has been made concerning the tour of Australia in 1936-37.
