Relic oi Early Days. 1 Before the days ot a gravity watei ' supply Wellington residents relied on ' wo,l| water, of which there was never i any lack, or sometimes they ran a down pipe from the roof into an improvised well. One of the latter variety has I been discovered in constructing the , foundations of a new building on a I site in Manners Street. Near the back i door of the old building has been un- ; earthed an old oaken barrel, sunk in | the ground, evidently used at one time for the conservation of water. 'I he 1 wood in places, though blackened, is ■ -till in a fair slate of preservation, al i though ii must have been in the ground i for over half a century, ' meeting at the Opera House. At 10 j o’clock to-morrow morning lie will ! meet the Wanganui Ministers’ Assouiaj lion in Trinity Parlour, where the ' ladies of I’rinity Church will dispense ! ten. Following that lie will preach al a service in 'l’rinity Chureli.
