There was a larger yarding of cattle at the weekly Westfield fat slock sale to-day, close on 1000 head being offered with a tendency to a shortage in the ox beef sovtion. »Sonio very prime offerings were included and, with competition very keen, all choice and prime quality cattle firmed Li value by a further Is per 1001 b. A large yarding of cows and heifers also met with brisk bidding and best, sorts sold well. Older and inferior cows were inclined to be easier than at last week’s sale. Extra choice ox beef made 24s per 1001 b.; choice and prime, 20s to 235; secondary and plain, 16s Io 19s; prime young cow and heifer beef, 2()s to 235; other cow beef, Ils to 19s Extra heavy prime steers made from £lO 7s 6d to £11; heavy prime, £9 to £lO ss; lighter prime, £8 to £8 17s 6J; unfin ished, £4 15s to £6 12s (>d; extra heavy prime young cows nun heifers £6 5s to £7; heavy prime, £4 10s to £5 10s; lighter prime, £3 5s to £3 1‘ ; other killable cows £2 to £2 10s. The yarding of calves was an average one and included a number of outstanding lots with fhe denr'ml keen All classes sold readily *t sa‘isfactorv values, last week’s prices being easily maintained, with an improving t/jnd ency in the case of heavier so'l.- Run ners made from 35s to H2s. vealers. 18s to 625. A good average yarding of sheep met with a rather dull sale, especially
in the (case of wethers. At the commencement ewes were inclined to maintain late rates but later they eased by about Is a head. Wethers throughout realised lower prices. The offering of lambs was on the small side. Good quality sorts sold readily at late rates, the sale on the whole being satisfactory. Wethers, prime, made 21s 6d to 26s 6d; unfinished ,18s to 21s 3d* ewes, prime, 14s to 19s 6d; unfinished, 12s to 13s 6d; lambs, prime, 14s to S2s 6d; unfinished. 10s to 13s 9d; maiden ewes, 21s to 235. There was a smaller yarding of pigs but the quality was good. The demand for all classes was strong ami values were very firm at late rates, with something of an improving tendency in the. case of prime baconers. Store pigs were scarce and anything showing promise sold well. Baconers made from 48s to 735; porkers, 27s to 43.-; large stores, 18s to 235. Prices per lb: Ba'eoners and porkers, 5d to s|d. MARTON SALE The N.Z. Farmers’ C'o-Operal’u e Dis tributing Company Ltd., report a yarding of 700 sheep, 50 cattle and 45 pigs at their fortnightly sale held on Tuesday. There was a good attendance and the market for sheep was quite firm on recent sales. The cattle entry consisted principally of dairy sorts and practically all were disposed of. We quote: Five-year ewes r.w. S.D.R., 21s Id ro Ils ti(l; aged ditto, Ids lid; good ewe lambs, 21s 8d; medium ditto, ]Bs 7<i; good w.f.w. lambs, 13s 6d; medium ditto, 10s fid: medium b.f. lambs, 12s 7s; lambs, 17s to 18s 7d; fat ewes, Ils.
