LECTURE AT OKOIA. A “first aid” lecture and demonstration by Miss McCarthy will be given . at the monthly institute meeting on ■ Thursday afternoon. Members are reminded. of the potato competition and anyone wanting infonuatoin should ring Mrs. Gaunt, who is in charge of the competition. The points competii lion is for the best ‘‘scissor painting” I <»r a ‘‘jar of berries and foliage” and ; ilie roll call is ‘‘suggestions for the I institute.” MANGAPURUA. W It was a very jolly party of members and friends which met on April 11 to celebrate the first birthday party of the Ma»ngapurua W.I. Mrs. Shaw had spared no effort and the decorations in the institute colours (brown and gold) and the masses of chrysanthemums (institute flowers) were a feast to the • eye. Mrs. Bettjeman, in welcoming all said that they had derived a great deal of pleasure and help from the year’s work in the institute and hoped this year that they would move on to even higher things. Great interest had at all times been taken in the competitions, and in handing Mrs. Shaw the trophy for the most points for the year she conveyed the congratulations of all. The social part of the programme was in the hands of Miss Bettjeman, and games, community singing and a novel competition won by Mrg. IT. McI Donald, made the afternoon go all too soon. Afternoon tea was, of course, a special feature—the beautifully decorated cake made by the president—holding place of honour. Each member received from it a. souvenir of the occasion. The singing of ‘‘God Save the King” concluded a most successful I function.
