I The marriage was celebrated at St. i Paul's Presbyterian Church last evening, of Catherine, elder daughter of ,■ Mr. and Mrs. H. Tennent Wells, of Makirikiri, Wanganui, to Gerald, youngest son of Mrs. Biss and the late Mr. A. S. Biss, of Wellington. The chancel had been prettily decorated by friends of the bride with autumn flowers. The Rev. G. 8. King officiated at the ceremony, and the wedding music was played by Mrs. Emmett. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr. .Tack Wells, wore a beau-tifully-made Empire style gown of ivory ring velvet, dotted with gold threads. The bodice had a boat-shaped neckline high in front, with cowl effect, and cowl draped at the back. The new monk sleeves were most effective. The skirt formed a train and a gold girdle finished the neckline. Her tulle embroidered veil fell in soft folds from a halo coronet and formed a short train, and she carried a sheaf of gold

and cream roses and chrysanthemums. A dainty frock of pink and white floral organdie was the choice of the bridesmaid, Aliss Sylvia Wells, sister of the bride. She carried a bouquet of flowers in tones to match her frock. Air. Neil Blundell, of Wellington, attended the bridegroom as best man. I Only relatives and very dose friends jof the family were present at the reception held at the Elrick Lounge. The tables wore decorated with gold chrysanthemums and Iceland poppies. All the customary toasts were honoured and numerous telegrams were received. To receive her guests, Mrs. Tennent Wells wore a handsome frock of black velvet brocade in silver, white fox fur and smart black hat. Afrs. Biss, mother of the bridegroom, was wearing a becoming ensemble in wineberry shade with hat, to tone. For going away ihe bride chose, a frock o£ Marina blue worsted crepe, a three-quarter length coat with revers and high collar of astrakhan, and blue velour hat trimmed with a white wing. Bruce and Rill Grummitt, Montgomery Bunnv Wells. W.D.F.U. RATA-PUTORINO BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the RaiaPutorino branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the Rata Hall on Wednesday, April 17. Those present were Alesdames Pryce, Harvey, Rhodes, Pickford, Deihl, Harre, Raine. Smith. Ellery, Hart. Follett. Downs. Signal. Gibbs, Beattie; Misses I. Meads, Gardner, Stevens, Harvey. The annual report stated:— “On April 4, 1934, a meeting was held in the Rata. Hall to consider the formation of a branch of the W.D.F.U. Air. Lloyd Hammond presided over a. large attendance. The chairman introduced Mrs. Niederer, of Palmerston North, formerly of Southland, and after both had spoken on the work of the W.D.F.U. it was unanimously decided |tn form a Rata Putorino branch. Airs. Niederer called for nominations for officers to function throughout the year, and these wore willingly forthcoming and accepted. At the conclusion of this dancing took place interspersed with items rendered by a concert party from Afarton. Afe.etings have been held regularly throughout the year with an average attendance of 22. Competitions. practical and entertaining, have been a, feature, at every meeting these included a decorated tumbler of flowers, plain scones, fruit scones, old photographs, nursery rhymes, proverbs, sponge cake (plain), sponge cake (butter), jam jar of flowers arranged for effect, for which points to successful competitors were awarded. This resulted in a win for Miss Meads, with Miss Gardner second. Tn addition, two special competitions were inaugurated by Aliss Meads, advertisements, and six annuals, the prizes going to Aliss Stevens and Aliss Newnham respectively, and both received trophies presented by Miss Afeads. “Practical demonstrations were also given in home nursing, floral decoration. wreath and bouquet making, thanks for these demonstrations being due to Mrs. Carlyle, of St. Catherine’s, Marton, and Airs. Harris, Turakina. In September Aliss Macmillan gave two addresses —food and health, and dressmaking—and both were largely attended and her lectures were much appreciated. “During the year a card party and dance and two social evenings were held to raise funds. The proceeds from the social evening in November were devoted to buy toys to decorate a Christmas tree. The Christmas party took place on the afternoon of December 20, a very happy time was spent by members and their children, nearly eighty presents being distributed. During the afternoon games were played, the some of the children contributed to the afternoon’s entertainment with recitations and dialogues. To Mrs. Harre and Mrs. Smith the thanks are due for the splendid assortment of toys. The branch has linked up with the British Drama League; members have not had a chance of displaying their talent but we look forward to some activity in the near future. A small donation was made by the branch towards Lady Bledisloe’s parting gift, a subscription was also made to help defray expenses of our delegate to the Pan-Pacific Conference. The year closes with a credit balance of £4.” Election of officers resulted as fol lows:—President, Miss J. Meads; vicepresidents, Mrs. E. O. Pryce, Mrs. G. Harvey, Airs. A. H. Rhodes; advisory members, Mrs. G. Harvey, Mrs. C. Raine; provincial delegates, Mrs. D. Smith, Aliss Gardner; treasurer, Mrs. A. H. Rhodes; secretary, Miss B. Harvey.
