SCHOOL AFFAIRS. The following report was presented at the monthly meeting of the Taihape School Committee, by the headmaster (Mr. J. C. Whibley); — “The attendance for the past month has been good, due to fine weather. The matters reported upon by your visiting committee have been attended to. A load of wood has beeu received, also a load of metal. The glass in oue of the show cases has been replaced. The inspectors visited the school about a fortnight ago and found matters progressing satisfactorily. .1. have to thank Dr. Kronfeld for two very fine medals for competition in swimming in the primary school. I. should like to bring before you the need for more pictures on our walls, and more books for our class libraries. There arc few good pictures in the school. The in Hue nee of a good picture, like a good book, cannot be measured. As funds become available I should like a. proportion to be spent on pictures and books. The school breaks up for the term holidays on May .10.” The report was adopted. RUGBY AFFAIRS. The Management Committee of the < Taihape Rugby Union met on Monday ; evening, when there were present Messrs. J. Quirk (chair), Ryan, Schofield, Rond. O’Connor, Hebberd, Pine, Transom (Referees’ Association), and the secretary (Mr. C. L. Mu Hany). It was decided to write to the various clubs and instruct them that regijdra I] tion forms must be correctly and completely filled in, before being submitted to the Sub-Union. A lengthy diseusison ensued regarding the classification of players, but no motion was passed. Fixtures for Saturday, May 4, were announced as under:— Senior Grade.—Hautapu v. Pirates, on No. 1 ground; referee, Mr. C. FT. Transom. Huia v. Utiku, on No. 2 ground, at 2.45 p.m.; referee, Mr. W. Grey, Junior Grade.—Utiku v. Pirate, on No. 1 ground, at 1.15 p.m.; Mr. W. Winiata. Hiwera v. Hautapu. on No. 2 ground, at 1.15 p.m.: Mr. R. B. Schulze. Third Grade.—Hautapu v. Pirates, ou No. 2 ground, at 12 noon; Mr, K. 11 od Her.

CORONATION BALL. A grand Jubilee coronation ball «ill be held in the Town Hall, Taihape, on Monday, May 6, under the auspices of St. Mary’s Church. The ball will be preceded by a coronation ceremony. Hammond’s Premier Orchestra, from Palmerston North, will provide the music. A sit-down supper will be served. Prices of admission are advertised in this issue. GENERAL NEWS. Dr. Kronfeld left Taihape on Mon day to practice at Hataitai, Wellington. Mr. F. H. Andrews, who has been a resident of Taihape for the past 6A years, left on Saturday to accept a position with the engineering firm of Anderson’s, Ltd., Christchurch. Mr. Andrews made many friends during his stay in Taihape ami will be greatly missed. The annual re union dinner of the Taihape ami District Returned Soldiers’ Association will be held in 'the Town Hall on May 9. Mr. .1. A. Lee. M.P., will he the guest of honour. Particulars are, advertised.
