WANGANUI COMBINED CHOIR

The concert to be given in the Open Rouse to-night, Tuesday, by the abov< choir will without doubt be the musi cal event of the yar as far as Wan ganui is concerned. The choir, under the conductorshif of Air. F. Wentworth Slater, A.R.C.O. has made excellent progress. A fea ture in the composition of this choir which has struck those who have beer privileged to hear rehearsals, is the lyric type of soprano—a rare feature in a choir combination. Air. Slater habeen mtwry times complimented upor his success in securing such a trut soprano section. The assisting artists are Airs. Stella Wills, the well-known contralto, whe will sing “To the Forest” (Tschaikow sky). Airs. Wills is a firm favourite with Wanganui audiences and her re appearance on the local concert plat form will be hailed with pleasure b\ her many admirers. Mr. C. Franklin Browne, who sang with such distinc tion at the Wellington Competition: last year? will sing “All on a Sum mer’s Day.” a song composed by Air Gordon Mcßeth, and as he will be ac eompanied by the composer added in terest in this item will ensue. The programme is a lengthy one comprising eight items by the choir

seven items by the Male Choir, and an item by the Male Quartette, in addition to the items by Mrs. Wills and Mr. C. Franklin-Browne. Mrs. Freda Cunningham. F.R.S.M., and Mr. Horatio Nelson. F.R.S.M., will be the accompanists.
