BILLIARD ROOM AFFAIR
' ATTACK ON CONSTABLE. [ Per Frass Aivoclatlon. J , WELLINGTON, April 29. Following a disturbance in his bil- ■ liard-room, Joseph Hall, 41, called in a J police cunstable, but from the story rc- - vealcd in Court to-day he lost his head 1 during a scuffle with a man when ac- : company the constable to the street, - and when the constable pulled the man away, attacked him, with the result 1 that Hall himself was in the dock, The i. charge was one of assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty, and I he was also charged with using obscene r language. He denied both charges, but the magistrate said that the evidence jof the accused himself showed that he had lost his head. He had probably been unreasonably treated by some men in the saloon, but that was no reason for endeavouring to batter the man who was trying to assist him. The story told showed that the affair was all the outcome of the behaviour of several men under liquor.
