ENRAGED PEASANTS
TAX COLLECTORS ATTACKED. INDIAN \ ILLADE AFFAIR. 1 ALUUTTA, April ~8. Thirty-seven Jal peasants were Killed and a large number seriously wounded in a clash with the police in the village of Kadan, m Kajputana •State. A police official with an armed escort was supervising the tax collections when the party was attacked by an enraged mob of thousands of pea sants, armed with scythes and knives. The police opened lire. An official and several police were hurt. Over lOC rioters were arrested. The situation is at present tense. State troopers are patrolling the district”. The leaders of the Jat community have telegraphed to the Viceroy requesting hi- intervention.
