SEVENTY-FIVE KILLED

IN A PERSIAN COURTYARD. RUSH TO COLLECT ALMS. LONDON. April 16. A message from Bahrein Island, in the Persian Gulf, states that when they heard he was about to distribute alms, 2000 people gathered at the house of a Persian merchant. They thronged a narrow passage leading to the courtyard, of which the outer door was locked to prevent further ingress. Panic ensued and many were crushed and trampled. Seventy-five were killed before rhe outer door was broken down from the outside. Medical aid was rendered and a subscription has been opened. An inquiry is pending.
