In addition to he ordinary lodge business there was he installation of the District President if No. 4 District and a birthday celejration in honour of P.D.P. Bro. E. R. Morgan, who was 80 years of age and 01 till in office. After the minutes of the previous neeting had been read and adopted, an nspiring sight to the Aramoho members p, vas the admission of the Bishop Lodge ei jfficers in regalia, with a large number e] )f sisters. Then officers and members 0 , >f Acorn Lodge, Terrace End, Palmer- c ;tou North, and officers from Morgan it jodge, Marton, were admitted. n An initiation ceremony then took f« dace when Bro. A. G. Sadler was duly 1" nitiated into the rites of Druidism by •' A.D. Bro. J. E. Norman, assisted by the P M.C., P.D.P. Bro. Fred Ansell, and visitng officers. P.D.P. Bro. Co.x, P.D.P. Bro. 1 Tlenny, and P.D.P. Bro. AV. M. Gordon. Following the initiation ceremony, the District President. Bro. E. Orchard, then installed P.A. Bro. A. W. Brown, of Aramoho Lodge, as District President I’ for No. 4 District for the current term. 11 I'he Arch Druid then called upon P.D.P. ’ bro. Pearce to address the meeting. ' h Presentation. b Bro. Pearce stated that as one of H their officers had reached the advanced 11 ige of 80 and was still an active officer £ ind member of the order, the Aramoho md Bishop Lodges had decided to hon- '' our P.D.P. Bro. Morgan and Mrs. Al or »an on such an important occasion. Bro. Morgan had been an active District Q President fifty years ago. and visiting 0 officers present would testify to his activity in these far-off days. P.D.P. Bro. C. Poynter, charier men • her of Bishop Lodge, gave an intercut ing resume of the doings of the order i fifty years ago, and stated that Bro. , Morgan just missed being a charter member of Bishop Lodge, as he joined n the order a few months after the open u ing of Bishop Lodge. P.S. Bro. C. J. ; Sharpe, and P.D.P. Bro. Orchard also h referred to Bro. Morgan’s work. P.S. Bro. R. Carey, of Aforgan Lodge, li conveyed the congratulations of Mor n gan Lodge, and stated how pleased the 1 lodge was at getting the invitation to n attend the gathering and to do honour n to one who had done so much in the J ’ old days for Druidism in Marton. Bro. ( Morgan was the father of Morgan * Lodge. He was acting as the D.P. in those days, and opened the Morgan j Lodge. Secretary Bro. Hanton then intimated ( j that reference had been made at the v Gram! Lodge meeting in Auckland to the birthday celebration of Bro. Mor c gan and that the Grand Lodge as i sembled had passed'a resolution of < on- c gratulation to Bro. Morgan, and he had much pleasure in reading the following t telegram: — “E. R. Morgan, C/o Hanton. “Grand Lodge assembled Auckland passed resolution congratulating you on your wonderful Druidic record, and t wishing you many happy returns of the t day. Well done, our old friend and t brother. —Laughton, Grand Secretary." t Bro. Pearce then presented to Bro. L Morgan a malacca cane walking stick, 1 suitably inscribed, and to Mrs. Morgan a china cup, saucer, and plate and n wished them both many happy days. ‘ Bro. Morgan, who was completely ‘ taken by surprise, thanked the lodges j for the great honour they had done Mrs. Aforgan and himself, and briefly traced the local history of the order of fiftv years ago. The gathering then sat down to an excellent supper, the tables being filled [ with good things. Adorning the top I table was a beautiful birthday cake li: , by 80 brilliant candles (the gift of Mrs. and Bro. Pearce). All tight- i (with the exception of the 80 on the cake were extinguished while Bro. Morgan cut the cake, and the gathering sang “For They arc Jolly Good Fcl lows. ” “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a not able Druidic gathering and an outstanding event in the local history of the order. Dancing was engaged in by the vounger members, and cards by the older members, and all voted the evening a \ ery pleasant on.
