WANGANUI CLUB OPENING OF 1935 SEASON. OFFICIAL RUN HELD. To mark the commencement of their 1935 season activities, the Wanganui Harrier Club on Saturday afternoon held the opening run from the residence of the club’s president Afr. A. C. Bourgeois, Durie Hill. An excellent muster of dub members, comprising the two visiting clubs, Y.AI.C.A. and Marton, helped to make the run, held under the whistle of the Wanganui Club, a very enjoyable one. A total of 41 runners covered a varied course of six miles across country, together with a couple of miles of road work. Halts were called at different places, and a final run-in for new members of the three clubs was held over the last quarter of a mile. The result was as follows: N. Hopper (Wanganui) 1 A. Chambers (Y.M.C.A.) 2 J. Patterson (Y.M.C.A.) 3 R. Sutcliffe (Y.AI.C.A.) 4 M. Luxford (Wanganui) 5 F. Holder (Marton; 6 Older members followed, fairly well bunched. At the conclusion of the run competitors were entertained at afternoon tea by Air. and Mrs. Bourgeois. Those who spoke—Air. A. C. Hour- • geois (president of the AVanganui : Club), Air. A. C. Seivwright (vicepresident of Wanganui Club), Air. AV. Tones (president Y.M.C.A. Club), Air. J. H. Dashwood (president Afarton Club), Mr. L. Cross (secretary Y.AI.C.A. Club), and Air. C. B. AVhite (vice- . pserident AVanganui Club—all stressed rhe fact that now there were three harrier clubs in the district, competi- 1 lion would be better and keener, anff ; would thus improve the standard of . harrier running.
