The climax was reached at | a mid-day on Wednesday, when the camp j closed down and 120 men were dis- |j ; charged. j v The men demanded that firewood be ; p cut and placed near their tents. They | also complained of the food. Four men (t were discharged for creating trouble, and a stop-work meeting was held on Wednesday morning, when a secret _ ballot was taken. It was decided to j strike until the discharged men were • 1 reinstated. This was refused by the , e Public Works, and acting upon instrue-iP tions from head office in Wellington, | 1 the camp closed down. . r l In the meantime the married men areir stil) carrying on.
