MONTHLY MEETING HELD DECISIONS IN BRIEF. REPORTS OE COAIAIITTEES. Lhe Alayor (Mr. N. G. Armstrong) presided at Tuesday night's meeting of the Wanganui City Council, whicu was the last that body will hold in public before the municipal elections, which take place next month. There " ■ present Councillors J. Siddells, W. Al. Falconer, F. J. Hill, H. G. Hur-’ ley,' G. H. Trott, E. O’Aleara, J. J. Jcoit, J. Robertson, G. J. Jones A. E. Halligan and J. D. Crowley. The following decisions were made as the result of adopting reports of coninjiitees. A n offer of AJ r. Pemberton io sell land adjoining Aramoho Park for £350 was declined. Provision of land in Purnell Street as a site for a future Technical College has been referred to the in-com-ing council. Tenancy of the Castlecliff Town Hall by the Castlecliff School Committee for a further year at £l2 10s. was approved. ■ » • • Victoria Park was granted to the Wanganui Football Association for the current season on the same terms as last year. An application for the use ot Cook’s Gardens was held oxer until the end of Afay on account of the necessity of haxing to top-dress the oval of that reserve. Tenancy, at the pleasure of the council, was granted to the Wanganui East Boy Scouts of a site at the rear of the section, next the Town Hall for the purpose of erecting a building. Funds will not. permit the asphalting of Carlton Terrace footpath thi-* year, but the council will advise pet i lioners in this connection that the matter will be brought forward for consideration next year, Subject to the owner paying the costs incurred by the council dedication of an extension to Talbot Street, is to be proceeded with. During the removal of the Wanga nui Garrison Band’s practice room to a new site in Queen’s Park, work which is now in hand, the band will be permitted to use for practice pur poses the stage extension at the Opera House xxhen the latter is not otherwise required. Fixe playing fields of Gonville Du main were granted to the Wanganui Hockey Association for the current season for the sum of ten guineas. The association is to be responsible tor the cutting, rolling, marking and maintcu ance of such fields. ft is the intention of the Sarjeant Gallery Committee to concentrate on one large exhibition periodically rather than accept the small interim collections offered by the Empire Art LoanSociety, London, l‘o subscribing gal lerie* " The committee has endorsed the purchase of two pictures through Mr C R Chisruan, of London —“Summer Time on the South Coast, Sheldon. Devon ” and “ Entre du Port Honflour.” These two works were obtained through the good offices of Mr. C. L Duigan, and the committee has placed on record its grateful thanks for his public-spirited interest in the Gallery. . e The Tramway Union asked that when the existing agreement expires on Mav 31 next the 10 per cent, cut be restored and that overtime rates on Sundays and in certain other cases be ievised.
