MAGISTRATES’ COURT The monthly sitting of the Magistrates Court was held before Mr. R. M. Watson, S.M. on Wednesday. Ragwort For failing to eradicate ragwort on the property he Occupies J. R. Ciochetto was lined £2 and costs 10s. Mr. Ritchie appeared for the defendant and explained that the man who was employed to cut down the ragwort suddenly left him and defendant himself Lad been ill. He pleaded for a nominal penalty under the cineumstances. J. Rubie, who appeared, said he had cleared a fair amount of his land. He had 231 acres altogether. was fined £2 and costs. The Magistrate said he considered the failure to eradicate ragwort from a property to be a very serious matter. He had inflicted a light penalty in the two cases brought before him, but in the future heavier fines would be imposed on all offenders brought before ■ him. Lice on Sheep. Bertha 0. Edwards was fined £2 and costs 12s for exposing lambs at a public sale yard on February 7, 19,35, infested with lice. Henry W. B. Littlewood was fined £1 and costs for exposing sheep infested with luce at a public sale yarn. W. G. Wade was fined £1 and costs and Mitehinson Bros, and Bott, were fined £1 And costs for a similar offence. Inspector R. A. Thompson prosecuted on behalf of the Stock Department in all cases. He said these cases bad been brought as a warm ng to offenders. The department was anxious to keep the district as clean as possible. Settlers must clean noxious weeds from their property and must keep their animals clean of insects. This was required not only in the interest of the farmer himself but for the benefit of other people. Judgment Orders. J. 11. Jellyman was ordered to pay W. J. Feltham the sum of £7 12s and costs, warrant to be suspendel as long as he paid £1 per month. W. A. Evans was ordered to pay S. H. Gould the sum of 15s Id before April 1, in default five days imprisonment. Civil. Judgment by default was given for : plaintiff in the following: —D. L. ! Keueke v. Albert Wailford, claim £3 ■ 14s and costs; D. P. Scarfe v. Fred j Uaitana, claim £3 Is 10d and costs. SYMPATHY ’ Prior to the start of the business at ! th© Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, I Mr. L. N. Ritchie referred to the loss by death of Mr. A. Windle, who had passed away since the last sitting of I the Court. Mr. Windle had practised as a solicitor at the Raetihi court for some years. The Magistrate, Mr. R. M. Watson S.M. also spoke of the high opinion held by all connected with the, court regarding the late Mr. Windle. He was sure they all sympathised with I the relatives of the late Mr. Windle
