AFTER FORTY YEARS
VETERAN’S GRIP ON GAME. DUNOAN AT HERETAUNGA. The news that, as cliampion of the Heretaunga Golf Club, A. D. S. IDuncan took part in the Wellington provincial champion of champions contest and was beaten by only six strokes over 36 holes, shows that he still has a sound grip of the game, despite more than 40 years of golfing. The title was this year won by J. L. Black (Hutt), with a gross card of 150, Duncan being fourth with 156. Undoubtedly the most popular and prominent amateur golfer in the country, no major tournament would be complete without A. D. S. Duncan’s patronage. In his golfing career he has held a New Zealand title no fewer than 13 times. He won the open in 1907, 1910 and 1911, but the professional opposition then became too strong, but his name continued to appear on the amateur cup. He held that title in 1899, 1900, 1901, 1905, 1907, 1909, 1911, 1914, 1922 and 1926. The mere fact that he won the title on two occasions so far apart as 1899 and 1926 stamps him as one of the most consistent golfers New Zealand has ever produced.
