PLAZA THEATRE

“HELDORADO” SHOWING The celebrated producer, Jesse L. Lasky and the director, James Cruze, are responsible for the thrilling drama, ‘ ‘ HeilucTado/ ’ which heads the current programme at th© Plaza Theatre. These two men were also responsible for such, successes as ‘ ‘ The Covered Waggon’’ and “Old Ironsides’and their latest production is well up to their usual high standard. “Hcildorado” is a gripping tale of the ad ventures of eleven pec-pie who, cut off from the world by a flood, find excitement and. romance in an abandoned mining camp. A fascinating romance of a young heiress is woven into the central theme, and. the interest is strongly maintained until the thrilling climax, showing scenes of a modern gold rushRichard Arien gives a brilliant performance in the leading part, ana Madge Evans has the principal feminine role. “The White Parade’’ An absorbing and human story of the nursing profession forms the theme for “The White Parade,” which is tu be screened, on Saturday at the Plaza Theatre. It deals with the duties of probationer nurses in the early days of their training and the conflict oi their young desires to escape from rigid discipline. Many people are introduced for the first time to what the young nursing student has to learn in rhe process of becoming etticieut in her work and the picture has no small educational value irom this point of view. Loretta Young and Juiin Boles are in the leading roles, Miss Young as probationer aud he as a leading American polo player. In order to cure the homesicKness of a fellow-pro-bationer Miss Young alleges that she is the sweetheart of the polo artist and is upset to be torn apart from him by her work. The ruse works but the rumour spreads and she is obliged to keep up the pretence. How she does this and achieves the inevitable climax to proceedings makes quite an enjoyable film. Also in the cast are Dorothy Wilson, Muriel Kirkland, Astrid Allwyn, Frank Melton, Walter Johnson, Jane Harwell and many others.
