PATEA
CRICKET. Once again those old rivals, town and country, have met in a cricket match. The teams were made up from members of the Country Clubs’ Association and from town members of the Patea Club. Play commenced in the morning sunshine, but shortly after the luncheon adjournment rain appeared likely to fall, but luckily the town’s innings were completed before it started to rain heavily. Country proved the winners by a margin of 27 runs, which made the innings of the last two or three town batsmen very exciting. Boyd and Archer, the country bowlers, however, were too strong for them, although a good stand was made by Maule against them. Patea compiled 142, S. Cousin (44), being the outstanding batsman and 8. Edwards (five for 31). the most successful with the ball. Town replied with 115. S. Edwards (-3), J. Ewens (25) and J. McKenna (22) being the principal scorers. Boyd (four for 23) and Archer (three for 20) were the successful bowlers.
