PRICES OF NEW ZEALAND APPLES The Department of Agriculture has received the following cable, dated March 16, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow: Market firm with no change in values. Hemp: Manila, —Market quiet and unchanged. Output January 1 to March 11, 268,000 bales against 250,000 for the same period last year. Stocks in the United Kingdom at Mai«ch 1, 22,036 bales as against 17,478 bales at same time last year. Stocks in Manila at March 11, 158,000 bales as against 129,000 bales for last year. Sisal, — Market quiet but steady with values about unchanged. New Zealand—Market nominal and unchanged. Stocks in London at March 1, 22 tons against 21 tons for last year. Apples: Arrivals of American smaller, but prices boxed somewhat easier. The Akaroa shipment of New Zealand apples generally good, but some Worcesters in variable condition. Present condition of trade is fair and part of consignment sold. The following are the market values of sound conditioned fruit of the varieties mentioned, the range of prices generally representing the difference between the several grades and/or >counts. Variable conditioned fruit of similar varieties proportionately less in value: Cox’s Orange, 20s to 30s; Worcester, 10s to 12s; Gravenstein, poor demand, 10s to 11s; Alfriston, very few sold, 9s to 10s 6d. Pears: South African supplies heavy. Prices lower early this week, hut tending firmer at the close.
