INDIAN BOY SCOUTS’ P UNIQUE CELEBRATION CALCUTTA, March 10. Fifty thousand Boy Scouts in the Punjab Province are planning a unique celebration at the King’s Silver Jubilee The Scouts will assemble at their respective headquarters and lOC picked youths from five provincial divisions will carry local greetings in mile relays to Lahore from the most remote areas. The most arduous trek will be from Kylang, in Ladakh, where the runners will have to cross the snow-covered Himalayan passes. Others will have to swim the mighty Indus and traverse the acid sand desert. The messages will be handed to the Governor (Sir Herbert Emerson), the chief provincial Scout, who will send them to the King by air mail. LONDON COUNTY RECEPTION LONDON, March 10. The Loudon County Council will give a reception in honour of the King’s Silver Jubilee on the evening of May 31 at the County Hall at Westminster. The reception will be attended by the King and Queen.
BISHOP’S APPEAL DIFFICULT PERIOD LONDON, March 10. The Bishop of Norwich, who will preside at the Albert Hall thanksgiving on May 8, has written an Empire appeal which is being translated into all Empire languages for the jubilee service. It refers to the King’s difficult quarter of a century, and adds: “It is everything for the Empire that their Majesties’ own family life and ideals are within the range of high and low, rich and poor.
