WANGANUI COLLEGIATE
MB. J ALLEN TO RETIRE LONG RECORD OF SERVICE The headmaster of the Wanganui Collegiate School. Mr. J. Allen, 8.A., has tendered his resignation to the Board of Trustees and is to retire at the end of the year. Mr. Allen has acted as headmaster at the school during the past three years, while he has been a member of the teaching staff for a period of 28 years in all, having joined the staff in October, 1906. The board received his resignation with regret. Five years after his appointment to the teaching staff, Mr. Allen took over the position of housemaster of Selwyn House which he controlled until the retirement of the Rev. C. F. Fierce in 1931. Prior to com'ing to New Zealand, Mr. Allen was educated at Lancaster School, England, and at Pembroke College, Cambridge. His two sons were educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School, and one, Mr. D. Allen, recently entered the British Foreign Office by passing competitive examinations. The other son, Mr. P. Allen, is at present in the sixth form at the college. Applications to fill the position to be vacated by Mr. Allen will be called for in Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain.
