INJECTION INTO HEART
“DEAD” INFANT LIVES. DRAMATIC USE OF ADRENALINE. LONDON, Jan. 5. How a cliiltl who had apparently been born dead was brought to life alter an hour has bexm disclosed. The baby is the daughter of a young miner and his wife living in a Doncaster colliery village. 'There was no sign of heart-beats or breathing when the child was born. The nurse triml artificial respiration for an hour, but still there was no sign of life. The doctor, who haci been busy with au operation on the mother, then inserted a needle into the child’s heart cavity, injecting a powerful cardiac stimulant. The heart began to beat, and now, after a fortnight, the child is strong and healthy. The mother also recovered. The doctor in the vase stated in an interview: “I had read of similar cases, though there were only four or live known to medical science. I little thought that I would so soon be called upon to make the experiment. r l he child was to all intents and purposes dead. I injected a powerful drug, a heart stimulant, adrenaline, and the result was dramatic- ’Phe child began to splutter, then to breath and cry." The nurse in the case, said: ” Ihe doctor could hear nothing when he applied his stethoscope. There was not the faintest fluttering of the heart, nor anv sign of breathing, but he injected n needle into the. heart to apply the drug, and the <’hi!d lived.”
