MINISTER S THREAT

BUTTER CONTRACTS UNDERCUTTING MARKET PRICE. [ Per Press Association. ] HAMILTON, Feb. 2. Strong exception to the action of a large group of dairy factories in making a contract with chain grocery stores in New Zealand by which the latter can purchase butter requirements for Id per lb. less than it is obtainable at any particular factory, was taken by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, speaking at Ragland last evening. Mr. Macmillan said that, such action defeated the whole purpose of the stabilisation scheme for the local' butter market under the Sinclair plan. He described the manoeuvres as most unfair, and stated that if any future contracts of this nature were made the Government would declare them null and void.
