STOCK MARKETS

FEILDING SALE i - llie New Zealand Farmers’ Coop. Distributing Co., Ltd., report on the leiltling sale, held on Friday, as follows:—Over J(I,OUU sheep were yarded at yesterday’s Feilding sale, and this huge entry necessitated a division of selling labour, store ewes being sold by one set of auctioneers and store lambs by another. Interest was very keen, with a particularly large attendance of breeders. The sale did not come up to expectations in the matter of eagerness in buying, both store lambs and ewes being down about Is in value from last week. Fat sheep and cattle were sold at late rates. Btore cattle and run lots were not keenly competed foi, and in many cases the offerings were passed in. Quotations:—Fat Sheep: Fat ewes, 15s, 15s 3d, 15s 6d, IBs, IBs 9d; fat wethers, -3s, 23s Bd, 245, 24s 4d, 24s Bd; fat lambs, 18s, 19s, 20s, 225, 23s 4d; store sheep, two-tooth ewes, 19s 6d, 21s, 255, 2Bs lOd; four and six-tooth ewes, 21s (id; four and five-year ewes, J7s 2d, 18s, 18s Bd, 19s, 20s; live-year ewes, IBs Bd, 17s Id, 17s Bd; w.f. wether lambs, 9s, 10s Bd, Ils, 12s lOd, 13s 3d, 14s Bd; b.f. lambs, 9s Bd, 10s, Ils, Ils Bd, 13s, 14s 3d, 15s Bd, IBs, 17s; ewe lambs, 9s, 10s, 13s; two-tooth wethers, 17s 2d. Fat Cattle: Fat cows, £2, £2 10s, £3, £3 10s, £4, £4 4s, £4 15s; fat heifers, £2 10s, £3, £4, £4 10s; runners, £l, £1 10s, £2 10s. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the above fixture held in the Feilding saleyards on Friday, as under:—An exceptionally heavy yarding camo forward to this fixture—in all the total yarding was in the vicinity of 25,000 sheep and lambs. Although the major portion of the entry consisted of lambs still for so early in the year a record yarding of ewes were on offer. In the lamb section some pens of particularly choice b.f. and w.f. wether lambs suitable for rape camo forward. For these there was strong competition at prices if anything, firm on lato rates. It is quite evident from the tone of yesterday’s sale that farmers with rape are rather anxious to fulfil their requirements right away. On the other hand any backward lambs showing road stain were more or less a little easier. Included in our ewe offering we had som*» rather good lines of 5-year-olds which met with keen competition while Ok the other hand any ewes showing road stain and with indifferent mouths were more or less neglected. Although yesterday’s market in so far as brooding ewes was concerned was easier than our preceding sales, still in the face of the climatic conditions through which we are passing yesterday’s sale must be looked upon as a particularly strong one. It is quite evident that from now on any good lines of fresh, chiselled-mouth ewes are going to be keenly sought after. This was clearly videnced at yesterday’s sale when on some of our better class ewes bidding was ken and animated from a particularly strong bench of buyers. The annual ewe fair will be held on Friday, February 15, and in the face of yesterday’s sale it seems clearly evident that good 4 and 5-year ewes will be in strong demand at this fixture. The sains remark* apply to 2tooths. Although there were not many 2-tooths forwarded yesterday still quite a strong sale resulted for those yarded.

Cattle. —A rather heavier yarding than usual came forward. In the beef section values were on a parity wit\ late rates while store, run-bred cattle were more or loss neglected. The usual entry came forward in cull cows and met with quite a good sale.

The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., made the following sales at Feilding on Friday:—Fat ewes, 14s, 14s 3d, 14s 9d, IBs sd; fat lambs, 20s, 22s Bd, 19s 3d, 18s Id, 17s 9d; fat wethers, 22s 9d, 23s 6(1, 245, 21s Bd; 5-year-cwcs, tops, Jss, 15s Bd, IBs Id, 17s 3d, 17s 9d; medium sorts, 12s, 12s Bd, 13s 3d, 13s 9d, 14s; fattening ewes, Bs Bd, 9s to 10s; two-tooth ewes, 25s 3d, 26s 6d, 275; four-tooth maiden ewes, to 24s 6d; 2-tooth wethers, 17s 9d, 18s 6d, ]9s 3d to 20s Id; b.f. lambs, 13s, 14s fid, 15s 9d to Ifis lOd; w.f. lambs, Ils 3d, 12s fid, 13s to

Dalgety and Company Limited re port a very heavy yarding of sheep and lambs at the Feilding sale and a light yarding in all other sections. Store Sheep.—Breeding ewes wore penned in larger numbers the qlality bing mixed. Ewes with • dependable mouths and condition were competed for fairly strongly, but a lower range of prices were the order of the day. Low conditioned and travel-stained were inclined to be neglected and aged ewes showed a decided drop in price. However, the large attndance of the public were able to absorb practically the whole offering, very few lines being turned out unsold. Store Lambs.—The yarding accommodation in this section was taxed to its utmost to pen the offering, which was again a heavy one. The quality was- very mixed but the buying power remained strong throughout, until the close of the sale*. Here again a slight casing all round was noticeable, but there was practically a totai clearance. Considering the scarcity of feed throughout, the district the sale a 1! over was a very sound one. In the cattle section there was a good yarding of both run and dai y beef and a fair entry of store cattle for the time of year. The beef market we can quote no change in price and store cattle, also met with qui.c fair competition.
