MANY MURDER COUNTS ECHO OF BELA KUN RULE: LOI -■ LIST OF CHARGES [By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright 1 Received Jan. 22, 8.40 p.m. BUDAPEST, Jan. 21. Matya Rakosi, after serving 8| years for helping to create a Communist organisation as Trade Commissioner of the Bela Kun regime, now faces charges including 44 •counts of murder in connection with sentences passed during his term of office by revolutionary tribunals, and also executions carried out under martial law in the same period. Rakosi is further charged with leso mujeste, and uttering counterfeit coin.
Mr C. H. Bing, an English lawyer, and M. Milhaud, a French lawyer, are appearing on behalf of Rakosi’ s family, but the actual defence is entrusted (to four Hungarian lawyers under the supervision of an international lawyer. Marcel Millard, president of the International Jurists’ Association has prepared the brief. Rakosi is suffering frdwi heart trouble. He i& not allowed access to papers or books.
Counsel submitted that Rakosi should be tried by jury, but ch© Bench insisted on the competence of the present Tribunal. Rakosi contends 'that the Bela Kun Government, under which occurred the incidents culminating in the charges, was as lawful as any capitalist administration.
