Ohakune District Toe Chiakune Borough Council wrote .lating that the award dealing with .1 he merger of some land in the county was quite satisfactory. The engineer reported that the realignment of the Waiouru Road through Ivangataua. and inwards Karioi, has been completed, and portions .metalled. The, work done has produced a very marked improve iiirnl ,n the roadway generally, and will require very little additional work when bitumen work is undertaken. Good work has been done over the bitumen section ol" the Ohakune Road, where the shoulder has been strengthened, the alignment improved and top-dressing done. It will be necessary at a near date to commence the work in connection with replacement of the small

bridge near the “S” bend, where it is proposed to build a concrete arch culvert. Already some of the aggregate for the concrete work has been delibered. The reconstruction work on the Tohunga Road is now carried to the hill near Tucker’s, the greater portion of which section is ready for remetalling. The work at the deviation is well advanced, where considerable improvement has been done to the alignment of the roadway. The grader has been used frequently on the K-anga-taua, Ohakune and other roads and the usual maintenance work doneBuatiti Cr. Bettjeman reported that the metal on the Mangapurua Road Yas now well down the valley. The engineer reported that the contractor for metalling on the Ohura Road has completed his contract and has repaired the worst .sections of the Erua Road damaged by his carting. Good progress is now bring made with Ihe metalling on the Alangapurua ami Waipaipa. Roads, (here bring every prospect of the main works being completed this season. The alterations and additions Io the roadman’s cottage at Rual.iti have been completed. Owing Io the defective condition of the bridge near the school on the, M.angatiti Road it, has been necessary to renew several (>f the main limbers and the decking. The repair work was done by the Pub lie Works Department. Slips have been cleared am? the usual maintenance work, done on the different roads. Pipiriki Road The engineer, Mr. If. L. Hogg, re ported that the section of the Pipiriki lidad between, the borough boundary and the .Huikumu Road junction has been surfaced over the rough portions, following which the grader has been used with good results to widen and shape u|. the roadway. Overhanging scrub and frees "have been cut back where the vision was obstructed. The i prondil ioning of the lower section is now practically completed, the finish ing coal of metal has been laid and is now l.- ii g banked and shaped up. A filling ib being raised and the corners redii’ ed. V short section of the Alangoihe Rond has been widened, repairs done io the Huikumu, Waipuna, River and other roads- Fencing has been done at the fillings where the road was deviated on the Mangaeturoa. Road. The grader will be used on. the .Man gapltiroa Road north as soon as pus siblc.

Karioi Biding In the K-uioi district, it was tp ported that I ho Oraukukuru Road has been worked with the grader, the woiter-lablcs deepened, culverts attended to amt the portions scoured by heavy rains repaired, the road now being in good order. Maintenance metal is required o.i portions of the Waiouru Road between Rangataua and the South County Boundary, the materials for which will, be delivered as opportunity offers. This road has been worked with the grader periodically, which has been effective in reducing the maintenance material requirements. Arrangements have been made with the Rangitikei County iCouncil to work the lower end of the Turakina Valley Road while their grad’er is in the locality, the existing conditions preventing the grader being moved from the main roads. The different roads have been kept up to a reasonably good state of repair, principally by the frequent use of the grader. Parapara Riding The county engineer reported that approval of the proposals for further metalling on the Oraukukuru Road has been, received from the Public Works Department and tenders for the work will be called on receipt of the mono tary authority. Proposals have been submitted for further metalling on the Matahiwi Road. The repairs to the Parapara Road have been completed over the worst sections, and the grader used to shape up the new metal. It is

proposed Idling a contrail lor widening the culling al the lower end of the Mangawhero Hill as soon as the survey and the plans are completed. I'he piin-ip.il damage caused by the recent, heaby rainstorms has been repaired and maintenance done on the Mangamii Riding In Ihe Mangauui district the worst sections of the Uururij Road are being re-formed and nvw drains cut. It is proposed to metal these sections soon as the motor-lorries are available. The metal deposit is being stripped in readiness lor the work. Khort. sections of the road have already been metalled by wheelbarrow transport. Owing to A ItD ('ounty 123 456 123456 1234 defects in the formation and other unsatisfactory conditions developing in the tunnel ear Oraut-oha. bridge, it has been necessary to abandon t-lieh work. A dual Hue of 24in. concrete pipes has been set and the filling commenced at the devialion. r l’hc Middle, Hisuhiku and Motete Roads have been repaired over the sections damaged by the recent thunderstorms, liepairs will be done to the Horopito Township Road as soon as possible. The grader has been used on the main roads and the usual maintenance work done on the several road®, in the riding. Returns of heavy lmflic licence fees for the quarter showed that £54. 8s had Ppp,) collected in the county and £7O 12s 8d received from the pool. Accounts amounting to £1276 .17s 3d were passed for payment.
