HOSPITAL FINANCES
DEFICIT AT GISBORNE £1646 FOR NINE MONTHS GISBORNE, Jan. 18. A deficit of £1646 on the working of the Cook Hospital for the first nine months of the Current financial year was disclosed in the statements submitted at a meeting of the Cook Hospital Board to-day. The main features responsible for this position were stated to be an increase in the numbers of occupied beds; an increase in repairs and renewals to buildings and equipment, brought about by reconditioning of the wards during the earthquake strengthening; necessary work undertaken and not anticipated at the commencement of the year; insufficient, margin allowed for the increased inte of exchange to be applicable «o a large proportion of the hospital expenditure; increased demands for outdoor relief.

Coleman, M.F.. plated a proposal befor.j the l .-ard for the apt Sntment of an experienced doctor ns a rcsponsih’o assistant. The meeting appeared to favour the proposal, which was referred to a special committee for consideration.
