SHOOTING

DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB ON THE LONG RANGES On Saturday last the Defence Rifle Club lired a competition for Mr. J Paterson’s trophy, the rang-es being SOO and 900 yards. Efim. 1. l ord showed the way to his club-mates by winning the trophy, while E. Farley took second place, being counted out at 900 yards. Some good shooting was recorded at SOO yards, the best being Kflni. Ben Shaw', who scored the possible 50. The scoring at 900 yards was marred by tricky “right drift” which the flags did not show'. This proved the downfall of many members, “outers and clean misses” being the result. To-day being Anniversary Day, several Wanganui rifle shots will be competing at Bulls in the Kangitikei rifle meeting. Next week competition will be a continuation of tiie club championship, the ranges being bOO and 900 yards. Following are Saturday’s scores:
