MORE RATES COLLECTED. REVENUE FROM GOLD. WAIHI. Jan. 17. ' Discussing the financial statement 1 presented to the Wai'ha Borough Conn- 1 cil by the treasurer last evening, the Mayor. Mr. W. N. Wallnutt, said . although a debit balance was shown. ! gold duty to the extent of £l3OO was j still to be received before the end of j the year. There had been a substantial , increase in the collection of rate arrears compared with last year and a slight increase in the collection of cur rent rates. “I have no doubt that the financial position will be quite satisfactory by the end of March,” said Mr. Wallnutt, ‘ ‘ but it is necessary, however, to observe the warning given some little time ago that nothing in the way of new works not provided for in the estimates should be undertaken.”
