QUIST BEATS PERRY VICTORIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS CRAWFORD A FINALIST [By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyriffhtf Received. Dec. 14, 10.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 14. The Victorian tennis championshipr reached the final stages to-day, when the semi-finals were played. In the men’s singles Quist defeated Perry, 6—o, 6—2, 6—o, and Crawford defeated Stefani, 6—l, 6—l, 6— B, 6—4. Crawford established a lead early and was never greatly troubled by Stefani. Crawford s driving and serving were superb. He will meet Quist in the final to-morrow. Quist played tennis worthy of a master of the game. He had perfect control over every stroke and forceo Perry into more errors than were inadi in any match in Australia. The result was the greatest tennis surprise of the year. In the women’s singles semi-finaii Miss Hartigan defeated Mrs. Hopmau, 6 —B, 6 —l, 7 —5, and Miss Round defeated Miss Dearman, 6—4, B—6. Misses Round, and HarUgau will meet in the final of the women’s singles to-morrow. The Kooyong courts were played on for the first, time to-day since the floods. Only two courts, however, were used, but they weer in remarkably good condition, though tricky owing to patches of silt. Though Miss Hartigan seemed to fear a dispute she recovered confidence later, forcing the pace and winning notwithstanding many errors. Miss Bound did not have things her own way against Miss Dearman. Although she won in straight sets she took each with only the minimum margin. Her stroking was not as fluent as ! n earlier matches and she lost points with several double faults. Miss Round and Mrs. Harper defeated Miss Hartigan and Mrs. Hopman 6—4, 3—6, 6—. In the doubles final Crawford and Hopman played Quist and Turnbull, 6 —3, 3 —6 6 —l,5 —7 (unfinished.) They played till dark and the game was even. The result is doubtful. INTERNATIONAL TENNIS AUSTRALIA AND FRANCE. Received Dec. 14, 11.5 p.m. BRISBANE, Dec. 14. In the international tennis match be tween Australia and France, McGratl defeated Brugnon 3—6, 6—3, 6 —3, and Moon lost to Boussus I—6, 6—4, 7 —9. Moon and McGrath lost to Brugnon and Boussus 6—4, 6—4, I—6, 2 —6, 2—6.
