Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, December 14, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone extends across the north Tasman Sea and New Zealand, while a shallow depression is advancing across the south Tasman. Forecast. —Winds: Light to moderate southerlies in the far north, elsewhere light to moderate, but freshening north to north-west. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough in the far south, elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate south-easterly winds in the northern portion, elsewhere winds tending temporarily to the north-west and freshening somewhat; seas moderate. Weather: Fine and warm generally, but some showers developing later in the far south. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 12 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Shade temperature: Maximum, 72 deg.
