CHRISTCHURCH FIRE
EVIDENCE AT INQUIRY. ( Per Press Association J CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 29. 'l’he long inquiry into the origin of the fire at the warehouse of Davidson aud Co., Ltd., 168 Lichfield Street, early in the morning of June 8, was continued before Mr. E. D. Mosley (coroner). This was the third day of the hearing. Continuing his evidence, Mr. A. K. Smith, insurance adjuster, said that when lists had been prepared there was shown a balance, of £995, representing stock tha>t had disappeared completely, leaving no trace. Witness asked for details concerning that, stock, but those Davidson could not supply. Witness told Davidson that, his bare word would not bp, taken, and asked him for a de- | claration. Davidson, in his statement, said that, his son was the owner of Davidson and Co., Ltd., holding 1249 of £l. shares, Davidson himself holding only one share. On June 7 there were goods in the warehouse to the value of £2115. He showed the value of the stoew which had been entirely consumed at £995. Evidence was given by several wit- I nesses as to transactions of some sales j and some, purchases by their firms with | Davidson and Co. The enquiry was adjourned until to- I morrow.
