PERSONAL Mrs. J. MoCarty left yesterday morning by car for the north, where she will visit Helensville and Auckland. Rev. and Mrs. Walton, accompanied by Miss K. Captain Hunt, of New Plymouth, who inspected the camp of the Patea platoon of the Taranaki Regiment last week-end, was the guest of Lieut, and Mrs. Haddow before returning on Saturday. Mrs. Bachelor, who has recently returned from a visit to San Francisco, was the guest of Mrs. A. Maxwell last week before returning to Stratford. CRICKET Rain prevented the match between Patea and Power Board in the South Taranaki competition being completed last Saturday, and stumps were drawn early t the game being declared a drawImprovement in the standard of play, particularly in batting, was shown by the Patea cricketers, who compiled 118, batting first. D. Hughes, of the Power Board eleven, was the bowler to secure the “hat trick.” He took two wickets with the last two balls of one over, and with the first ball of his next over felled another wicket. In the match at Kohi between Patea and Kohi during the week-end, Patea were defeated by 20 runs. Difficulty was experienced by the Patea team in the play on a concrete pitch. Kohi, batting second, made 61, double-figure scorers being Hammond 12, Mitchell 15, and Brown 10. Holmes was hostess at a bridge evening at her home last 1 inday, when three tables were in play, both contract and auction bridge beingplayed. Funds for the Patea Girl Guides were raised by the holding of a bridge afternoon in the Town Hall supperroom last Friday afternoon. A most enjoyable time was spent, the winners proving to be Miss R. Harris, who scored the nearest number to the hidden bridge score; and Mrs. L. Adams, winner of the five hundred.
