TENNIS CLUB. The opening of the tennis season was held on Labour Day, when conditions were perfect and a large number of players, including visitors from Apiti and Kimbolton, competed in a Yankee tournament. The ladies’ trophy resulted in a tie between Misses M. Calder and E. Dcihl and lhe men’s trophy was w<m by Mr. J. Kilgour. GENERAL NEWS. On the evening of Labour Day a very successful dance-was held, the proceeds being in aid of the public library. Novelty dance prizes were won by Mrs. J. Rose and Mr. D. Saywell (lucky spot waltz) and Miss E. Hancox and Mr. H. Smith (lucky chain waltz). Excellent music was supplied by Messrs J. Carr and F. Clarke. Extras were supplied by Messrs. J. Carr and 8. Moess. Mr. H. Meads was M.C. On Wednesday evening :> number oi* residents gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Pettigrew, who were recently married in Christchurch. A most enjoyable social evening was spent and the guests of honour were the recipients of many household gifts. Members of the Women’s Institute are notified that at the November meeting Mrs. Haythornc will demonstrate pine-needle and rush baskets. Members are reminded to bring a parcel for the Good Cheer Chest for the inmates of the Forirua Mental Hospital.
