Another celebration took the form of prizegiving for the 70 best farmers from 70 provinces, each representing a family who had cultivated the same holding for at least a century. The ancestors of one prizewinner had fillet! the same area for 1000 years. FASCIST “MARTYRS’* CEREMONY AT FLORENCB MUSSOLINI LEADS SALUTE FLORENCE, Oct. 28. Great preparations were made to ensure the safety of Signor Mussolini who arrived to honour 37 Fascist “martyrs,” who fell in the early Fascist struggles. The streets were hung with black flags on whivh are inscribed their names. Thousands of people watched the processions of their coffins which were carried to the mortuary chapel at the Church of Santa Croce, Florence’s Westminster Abbey. Signor Mussolini stood in the doorway of the chapel, leading the Fascist salute. As the coffins arrived the name of the dead was called out, spectators crying, “Present.”
