Europe Shamed
ATROCITIES IN SPAIN FIRST UNCENSORED MESSAGE (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright; Received Oct. 29, 8.35 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 29. The Morning Post’s Madrid correspondent says that the first uncensorea message since the revolt furnishes details of “atroctities that shame Europe.” The wholesale destruction of life and property in Asturias during the 15 days’ barbarous government by Socialists and Communists is beyond description. Groups of rebels have fled to the mountains and apparently intend guerilla warfare. The military courts are busily trying rebels, but there will be no executions until all the sentences have been passed, when the Government will review the eases. Over 2500 were killed during the revolt, and thousands were wounded and maimed. The damage at Oviedo is at least £5,000,000. The rebels in some cases tied policemen and priests to trees. Sticks of dynamite were placed at their feet, which exploded, murdering them. The bodies of 26 priests already have been traved. Canon Oviedo had his eyes plucked out. The nude body of a priest was exhibited in a butcher’s window, labelled “Pork. Tun cents a kilo.” Senor Lerroux’s Government is triumphant, but must now punish the culprits and re-establish law and order. There are many smouldering embers.
KING PRAJADHIPOK, whose abdication is probable following differences with members of the Siam ese Parliament.
