Air ( Riddiford, who was 55 years of age. t was returning from a trip to England j in the Rangitiki, which is due at i Auckland on October 24. and was ac- < companied by his wife and their daugh- i ter Pamela. c One of the Dominion’s best known 1 and most successful pastoralists, Air t Riddiford whose home is at Woburn, i Lower Hutt, w’as equally prominent in 1 racing ‘circles. He was a member of t a family whose turf associations are i part of the history of the sport in this < country. He, with his brother Eric, won a large number of the principal i handicap races in New Zealand, in- s eluding the New Zealand Cup, the v Auckland Cup and the Grand National Steeplechase. On his own a’ccount. Mr r Riddiford was the holder of a Welling- c ton Cup, a ATitchelson Cup and other o coveted trophies. s Air Riddiford was educated at the t Wanganui Collegiate School and began o his career as a sheepfarmer as a cadet, at Te Awaiti, Wairarapa. the propertv t of his father Air E, V. Riddiford. He t later managed his father’s properties t at Longburn and Cheltenham, and upon a the latter 's death in 1911 took over the f Glenburn sheep and cattle run on the s East Coast Tablelands, the Romney -v Alarsh sheep stud in the Wairarapa and i Brentwood, the noted Trentkam racing stud. g Mr Riddiford married Miss Zoe I Thorne George, the third daughter of the Hon. Seymour Thorne George, of Auckland. Their two daughters are Airs ? -I’. Vogel, Lower Hutt and Aliss Pamela f Riddiford. <
