WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WELTERWEIGHT TITLE McLARNIN BEATS ROSS Received Sept. 18. 10.20 p.m, NEW YORK, Sept. 17. Jimmy McLarnin regained his world’s welterweight championship to-night by winning a stirring fifteen-round bout from Barney Ross. A crowd of 25,000 pad about .115,000 dollars to witness the contest, which took place at Madison Square Gardens, the Long Island City Bowl. McLarnin weighed lOst. 6|lb. and Ko.ss lOst o{lb. The two judges were divided but •Referee Donovan cast his deciding vote in favour of McLarnin on fighting and boxin g ability combined. Ross scored sporadically on a furicus two-fisted attack, drawing considerable bloodOne of McLarnin’s eyes was closed. Ross was hammering him with both hands at the bell, but early points scored on a slashing open attack and crafty in fighting gave McLarnin the advantage. BOUT AT SYDNEY BLANDON BEATS JOHN SYDNEY, Sept. 17. At the Stadium Merv. Blandon (Bst. 131 b.) defeated the Englishman, Phineas John (Sst. 131 b.) on a technical knock-out. At the end of the tenth round John requested the referee to stop the fight owing tn an eye injury. y It was subsequently announced by the management that after receiving | the report of the doctor, the directors had decided not to pay John his money.
