Meteorological Office, Wellington, Sunday, September 15, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A fairly intense anti-cyclone extends across the North Tasman on to New Zealand, while a moderate depression covers the South Tasman. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong northerly to westerly, later backing in places to south-westerly. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough south of Cape Egmont about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Westerly winds, moderate in the northern portion, with moderate seas, fresh to strong and later backing to south-westerly in the southern portion, with rather rough seas.. Weather: Unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect from Taranaki southward and in the far South, with scattered rain. Elsewhere mainly fair to fine. The New Zealand Friends’ School, S. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 8 hours 40 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Shade temperature: Maximum, 56 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 38 deg. Fahr. Phases of the moon for September: Last quarter, September 2; new moon, September 10; first quarter. September 17; full moon, September 24.
