With the announcement at Washingre ton to-day that the President’s Board id had abandoned immediate hopes of cs arbitrating in the textile strike, the s- union leaders declared that they were of prepared for a long siege. he Meanwhile there has been violence of nt a serious nature in many sections. Four ig were shot, and probably fatally injured, ed by troops in a continuation of yesterday’s rioting at Saylesville, Rhode Island. An aeroplane carrying an emergency supply of tear gas bombs from Pittsburg to Rhode Island, crashed, and the pilot was killed. Three men were severely beaten and two automobiles wrecked, when strikers attacked guards in Pennsylvania. Disturbances also occurred in the States of Maine, Connecticut, Missisle sippi, and North and South Carolina. Ie The Governor of Rhode Island read re the Riot Act, virtually placing the jd smallest State under martial law. nt ' ■
