It is therefore not posible for the Patea team to ‘ be seen in action again this season. L. Edwards and C. Gudgeon will probably travel with the Taranaki team on its northern tour, which concludes with a match against Auckland at Auckland. Although C. Wills played for Taranaki last Saturday against Hawke’s Bay, it is unlikely he will journey with the team on this coming tour, the distance entailing too long an absence from his farm. BEAUTIFYING THE TOWN. Members of the gardening circle of the Patea Women's Institute, met at the Triangle last Thursday afternoon land planted the rock garden round the South African Memorial. This rock garden had ben prepared by the Patea Borough Council staff. and the stones I were arranged and the various plants and seeds sown by the gardening circle. ’This will make a great improvement to this central portion of the town, and it is hoped that the large variety of rock plants gathered and planted by the circle will flourish and provide a gay patch of floral colour. Arrangements were made for the next month’s meeting, which would be held at Mrs. Spooner’s home. Prior to this the members would congregate at the plantation opposite St. Patrick’s Church, and discussion would take place as to the planting of the roses of that section. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. Another very enjoyable evening’s [ sport was experienced at the Domain shed last Wednesday night, when the weekly competition shoot was held by members of the Patea Miniature Rifle Club. Although there was not the usual keen attendance of members, there was an added interest to those taking part in the competition, and some good scores were recorded. Rifleman N. Coad proved to be the winner of the Button, with a possible 50 off the rifle. Riflemen J. Bates, B. Waterland, and W. Black were second with 48 each. Rifleman W.
