MASS DEMONSTRATION
CHRISTCHURCH UNEMPLOYED. [ Per Press Association ] CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 5. The unemployed of Christchurch held a mass demonstration to-day in a procession through the main city streets, .1600 men and women marching, while 1000 attended a mass meeting held in Latimer Square. At the meeting resolutions were passed demanding that the Government provide work for the unemployed at trade union rates, or failing that that the Sustenance Act of .1930 operate to-day to provide full sustenance. Also that the uhemployeed be paid for time lost in demonstrations; that the Seditious Laws Bill be abandoned; and that Mr. Wyvern Wilson, magistrate at Auckand, who recently imposed a. curfew restriction on men be convicted and be withdrawn from the Bench. The procession was most orderly, and the Mayor. Mr. D. G. Sullivan, was one of the speakers.
