THE WANGANUI SALE PRIME EWES RISE SLIGHTLY; BEEF FIRM. Freeman R Jackson and Co., Ltd., report as follows on yesterday’s Wanganui sals:—Yarding in the sheep and cattle sections was confined almost entirely to fats. The fat sheep were very mixed, prime heavy ewes being 2s 6d above last week, whilst medium and light ewes were hardly as high as last week. The fat cattle contained another consignment of very prime P.A. cows on account of Mr. .7. Rogers, Turakina, averaging out about the same figure (£7 2s) as last week. A heavy yarding of pigs sold freely on a par with last week’s rates. Prices were:— Sheep.—Extra prime ewes, 28s sd, 295; prime ewes, 25s 2b’d; fat ewes, 21s 6d, 23s 6d; fat wethers (light and aged), 23s 6d; fat hoggets, 18s, 245; forward ewes, 7s, 10s. Cattle.—Prime P.A. c-ows, £6 ss. £7 2s Gd; fat P.A. cows and heifers, £5 7s Gd, £6 ss; fat cows, £4, £5 7s Gd; light fat ex-dairy cows, £2 10s, £3, £3 15s; store cows, 15s, 255; small yearling heifers, 15s, 20s; pedigree Jersey cows (close up), £8 8s; backward pedigree cows and heifers, £3 3s, £5 ss; poor conditioned bulls, £2 2s. £2 15s; dairy cows, £2 12s 6d, £3 10s; springing heifers, £2 10s, £3. Pigs.—Light baconers, £2 Is; heavy porkers, 335, 38s Gd; porkers, 275, 325; forward stores, 20s, 22s 6d; stores, 14s, 19s; slips (good), 18s, 20s; slips, 12s 16s; weaners, Bs, 14s; maiden sows to farrow, £2 16s. Vealers. —Good runners, to £3 12s; vealers, 395, 425; good calvers, 20s, 21s; small calves, 9s, 15s. CLEARING SALE. N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report having held a clearing sale of dairy stock on account of Mr. A. C. Bailey, of Fordell, and outside entries of store cattle were sold at the same time. Light fat wethers sold at 26s lOd; fat cows, light, at £3 2s 6d to £3 11s; heifer calves, 16s; yearling Jersey heifers, 35s to 375; forward steers, partly Jersey cross, £4 11s; empty cows, 22s 6d to £3; good second and third calvers, £4 to £ 4155; fourth calvers, £ 35s to £4 12s 6d; cows in profit, £3 5s to £5; springing heifers proft, £3 5s to £5; springing heifers, £3 2s to £4 2s 6d. Dairy cattle on the whole realised about late rates; heifers showed slight improvement, while store cattle and anything in fresh condition showed an appreciable improvement. VALUES AT ADDINGTON GOOD FAT CATTLE SALE. EISE IN FAT SHEEP PRICES. ( Per Press Association ). CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 5. At the Addington market to-day there were normal entries in most sections of stock, and a good sale, particularly for fat sheep and fat cattle. Store Sheep.—A small offering, which sold keenly. Old ewes and lambs sold at from 12s 9d to 14s 7d (all counted), halfbred two-tooths made to 31s, and ewe hoggets 26s Id. Wethers sold to 22s Id. Fat Sheep.—A small entry and. an advance in values of a shilling a head. Some outstanding quality sheep were forward from Southland and South Canterbury. A keen sale, with values up by a shilling a head. Extra prime heavy wethers to 34s 7d, prime Heavy 29s 6d to 325, medium weight prime 26s 6d to 295, ordinary 22s 6d to 2Gs, and light to 225. Extra prime heavy ewes to 31s 7d, prime heavy 24s Gd to 275, medium weight prime 22s to 245, ordinary 20s to 21s 6d, light to 19s Gd. Eat Cattle. —405 were penned. A good sale at last week’s levels. A pen of 15 Manawatu cattle averaged £l3 7s. South Otago and South Canterbury were represented by good lines. Best beef made from 28s Gd to 31s per lOOlbs., extra good to 325, prime heavy 25s 6d to 28s, ordinary quality 22s 6d to 255, seconds 19s 6d to 225, and rough down to 17s Gd. Extra prime heavy steer to £l4 7s 6d, prime heavy £ll to £l2 15s, prime medium weight £9 15s to £ll 10s, ordinary £6 15s to £9 10s, light £6 10s; extra prime heifers to £l2 2s Gd, prime £7 5s to £9 ss, ordinary £5 5s to £9 ss, ordinary £5 5s to £7, light to £5, extra prime cows £lO 12s Gd, prime £7 to £8 15s, ordinary £5 to £6 10s, light and aged to £4 ss. ►Store cattle contained no representative lines. Fat Pigs.—A fairly heavy entry and a recession in the price of pork from last week’s high rates. Choppers to £6 8s 6d, baconers 45s 6d to £3 15s 6d. Average price per lb. to s£d. Porkers 26s Gd to 4ls Gd. Average price per lb. 5d to 5Ad. THE WESTFIELD SALE CATTLE PRICES MAINTAINED ( Per Press Association ). AUCKLAND, Sept. 5. In spite of a larger yarding of cattle at the Westfield sale, last week’s advanced prices were sustained. In the stock section about 250 steers and 500 cows and heifers were penned, and quality generally was first class. Forward cattle are still short, and good prices are likely to continue for some time, although the rapid spring growth should enable graziesr to put more on the market within a few weeks. Extra choice ox sold lo 28s per 7001 b, choice and prime 24s to 275, secondary and plain 18s to 235, prime young cow and heifer beef 21s to 28s, other cow beef 14s to 235. Extra heavy prime steers £ll 15s to £l2 17s Gd, heavy prime £lO 5s to £ll 12s 6d, lighter prime £8 10s to £lO 2s Gd, light prime £7 2s Gd to £8 7s Gd, small and unfinished £4 7s, extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £7 5s to £8 7s Gd, heavy prime £6 7s Gd, lighter prime £4 10s to £5 17s 6d, other killable cows £2 to £4 7s Gd. Calves were penned in about average numbers, quality being mixed. The bidding lacked the briskness of a week ago, and prices receded by about 3s all round. Some good Shorthorn bobby calves attracted buyers and sold up to 4s. Runners 50s to 91s, vealers 30s to 80s, bobby calves Is to 4s. The yarding of sheep was again
