NINTH MATCH IN N.Z. DEFEAT OF MALVERN ( Per Press Association ). ASHBURTON, Sept. 4. The Australian hockey team played the ninth of their tour at Darfield to-day, against the Malvern representatives. Tho visitors won a fast game by six goals to nil. The Malvern side held the visitors in the first half to a score of I —nil, but in the second half the superior skill, combination and stick play of the Australians told a tale. Most of the matches in the third day of the women’s provincial hockey tournament were closely contested. Canterbury A put up the biggest score of the day—9 to nil —against West Coast. Marlborough leads in the A section, with Central Otago only one point behind. Canterbury A seems to have the best chance in the B section, while tho C section should be between Southland and Eastfrn Southland A, both unbeaten teams. Results of the games to-day are:— A Section. —Marlborough 2, beat Wairarapa J; Wellington 2, beat Canterbury B 0. B Section. —Ruahine 3, beat Eastern Southland 1; Canterbury A 9, beat West Coast 0. At the conference of delegates of the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association, held to-night, Miss Yorston stated that the association proposed to send a New Zealand team to Australia in July next. It would be necessary to raise a large sum. The team would participate in the Australian InterState tourney, which would extend over j a week, and would play two, possibly four, Test matches. It was stated that it would be necessary for the association to discuss the matter further and definitely discover what assistance could be given by affiliated associations. A levy of a shilling a player was suggested. f
