KAITOKE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

A special business meeting was held on August 30, when Airs. Bates, vicepresident, was in the chair. The meeting opened with the singing of the “Ode to Friendship,” followed by reciting the “ Asperations,” after which business was proceeded with. The report of the Dominion Conference held in July was read and a vote of thanks was accorded the delegate. Arrangements for the institute flower show to be held on Thursday, September 6, were finalised. The committee members will be pleased if sister institutes entering for the show will have their flowers staged by 1.45 p.m., as entries will not be received after that time. The following is a list of various classes:—Bulbs: Three of a variety, six of a variety, one polyanthus, also a jam jar of blooms (for points prize arranged with own foliage (for members only). Open class: Twelve large violets, one posy violets, six iceland poppies, six anemones, six ranunculus, six freesias, six pansies. The hostesses for to-morrow will be Alesdames Lethbridge, Gillies, Higgins, Hunt, Garner and Aliss Gillies. An interesting demonstration of papier machie was given by Airs. Garner. The competition for October will ba an article to be chosen from the sewing machine demonstration and also six pieces of fudge, three pieces with nuts and three without. A pleasant afternoon was brought to a close by singing the National Anthem.
