POLICE, PRESS AND RUGBY AIANY "STUNTS” PLANNED Arrangements arc complete for next Saturday’s big Charity Day effort on Spriggens Park. There was a full muster of the city’s miniature Police Force yesterday. The hoys entered into their task enthusiastically and will appear on parade on Friday night with the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band. Issues of the “Police-Press Post” will be distributed. This paper, fearless in outlook, humorous i i tone and free to all, carries with it a message of goodwill to the citizens of Wanganui. A role of the prophet is attempted in a column headed “50 Years Hence.” People will he interested in what tho future holds in store. The screen editor has undertaken the task of writing in humorous vein and the editor has been at pains to keep him off the subject of Mao West. A special. series of articles on sport will be begun; there will be a leader of undoubted hwllian'ce, a few ads, the day’s programme, and a photo of the committee. Tho programme for Saturday includes a stunt or two. Tlcrc are some of the likely happenings: (1) The banks take the field with their “gold” under guard and “High Interest” roped by the nock. While the banks and firms play Rugby “MiHigh Interest.” will be tied to the goalposts and tho military guard will watch the gold. “Mr Mortgagee” will seize the golden opportunity thus presented and will release “High Interest” only to fall a prey to “Mortgagor’s Relief.” While tin’ chase is going on the Reserve Bank,” while the attention of the banks’ guard is distracted, will “pinch” the “gold” The sequel to all the happenings will be interesting. (2) “Littlp Eric” will 'no here up to every trick imaginable. (3) Wellington police will get a surprise when the Wanganui team lines out against them. (4j_ Billy Wallace will be the referee. (5) Jimmie Hunter and W. S. Glonn will bo line umpires. (6) A “Runfurly” shield will arrive at ari appropriate moment, escorted by the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band and the Miniature Police Force. There is a happy combination existing between the police, press, bands, Rugby Union, banks, stock firms, public services, Y.M.C.A., miniature police, the caretaker of Spriggens Park (AFr E. Morgan) and staff, all for a good cause. A shilling tl'cket will entitle the holder to see all the fun and participate in an art union.
