‘DOWN WITH ALSATIANS”
SHOW SOCIETY’S DECISION. SUPPORT FOR THE NEW BILL ( Per Fress Association ). AUCKLAND, Aug. 31. The proposed legislation to restrict the brooding of Alsatian dogs was dis cussed at a meeting of the council ol the Aucklond Agricultural and Pastoral Association, when a letter was received from tho New Zealand Kennel Club requesting the council’s support in preventing the Bill becoming law. “The Bill provides for the sterilisation of all Alsatian nogs within three months of its becoming law,” stated tho letter, “and this would mean the immediate extinction of the breed for show purposes, as an unsexed dog cannot be exhibited.” Alsatians comprised a large numbei of entries at many of the club’s show! and are gradually coming into favoui as workers of sheep and cattle. “If we go against the Alsatians this association will lose many friends,” said Mr. J. Mitchell. “I move that wo leave the matter alone and take no action.” ”It has been proved that they are a| menace to the country,” said Mr. A. C. Trousdale. “It is our duty to support the Bill.” He added that Alsatians were a menace to children and to sheep-farmers, and he moved an amendment that the association do all in its power to assist the passage of the BilL The amendment was carried.
